What is happening
On macOS 14 Sonoma, Sophos Update may fail. This is due to an intermittent requirement for permissions on our installer files. Not all systems will exhibit this behavior. If you are impacted, you will notice the antivirus fails to update to the latest version. Release Notes
How do I know if I am impacted by this?
Click on the Sophos Home Shield>...>Check for updates.
Use About to see the installed version. Use the Release Notes to find the latest releases.
If the version does not match the latest version, and updating does not solve the problem, you are likely impacted.
Alternatively, you can use the terminal to run the following command:
sudo log show --predicate "subsystem == 'com.sophos.macendpoint'" --last 1d | grep -i 'Error renaming Installer directory'
Hit Enter and type your Mac's password *(you will not see it while you type), then hit Enter again
If there are any returns, you are impacted by this situation.
If nothing is returned, you are not impacted by the problem.
