This article explains how to disable Network File Scanning to help resolve slowness issues related to Time Machine network backups.
Sophos Home scans all local and network files in real time to keep your computer protected. However, if you notice issues such as slow performance or incomplete backups when using Time Machine to back up your Mac to a network location, you may want to turn off Network File Scanning for faster processing.
Important: If your Mac is protected by Sophos Home, the files being backed up have already been scanned by the on-access scanner locally. Disabling Network File Scanning will not affect the safety of those files
Steps to disable Network File Scanning
- Access your Sophos Home Dashboard
- Click on the Mac computer you want to adjust
- Go to PROTECTION --> General, and find Network File Scanning
- Click on the slider to turn the feature OFF
- Restart your Mac and perform a Time Machine network backup.
- Once the backup is complete, re-enable Network File Scanning by clicking on the slider again.
