Applies to: Sophos Home Premium for macOS
What's happening
You receive a Sophos Home notification on your Mac stating "Malicious Traffic Blocked"
This alert appears when the Sophos Home Malicious Traffic Detection (MTD) module detects and blocks suspicious HTTP traffic.
MTD monitors HTTP connections and blocks any activity that tries to connect to known malicious URLs.
For more details, see: Sophos Malicious Traffic Detection FAQs.
What to do
⚠️ Important: MTD exclusions apply globally to Real-Time Protection, PUA protection, and Scans.
(See the Related Information section for additional details regarding false positives.)
Option 1 – Exclude via a dashboard detection
- Locate the detection on your Sophos Home dashboard.
- Click Show more options.
- Under Did we get this wrong?, click Allow and Unblock.
Note: This adds an exclusion to Malicious Traffic Detection, PUA, Real-Time Protection, and Scans.
Option 2 – Exclude by manually entering the file path
- Add the file (or program making the network call) or folder you want to exclude in the dashboard.
- Exclusions cannot be made based on URLs or drives, you must enter the path to the program or file triggering the behavior.
For more details, see Setting Scan Exceptions.
Option 3-Disable Malicious Traffic Detection (Not recommended!)
- Users may disable the feature for testing purposes, but this is not recommended.
