What's happening
Apple Airplay may not screen mirror to other devices when antivirus software is intercepting network traffic.
After the release of MacOS 15.2, some users have experienced failures to screen share video using Airplay. This appears to be a bug in this macOS release, and it is related to the Firewall and the Network Security API. Multiple vendors are impacted, it appears that the problem relates to Apple's Network Security API (required for any network interceptions).
This is not a Sophos issue, and it is not possible for Sophos to address this, as it is occurring solely within Apple-controlled areas of the operating system.
What to do
-
Users on Apple's forums have indicated that turning off the Apple Firewall temporarily allows them to connect. You can find Apple's instructions for how to access these settings here: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/mac-help/mh11783/mac
From reports, it should be possible to re-enable the firewall once a connection is established.
- If you cannot mirror video, try to mirror the entire screen instead
- There is no workaround via Sophos software, as this is an Apple internal issue.
- Contact Apple Support to report the problem.
