This article provides information on the soft/permanent retirement of Sophos Home Windows on systems running older Windows versions.
Soft retirement Windows list
Windows versions listed under Soft Retirement will no longer receive software updates from Sophos Home. However, they will continue to get content updates (which include machine learning engines, threat definitions, and flags) until they move to the Permanent Retirement list. Soft retirement of Windows 10 64-bit
What happens during this phase?
- No new features or bug fixes will be released.
- Endpoints will receive content updates only.
- Permanent retirement is currently planned for April 2027. This article will be updated as new details become available.
⚠️ Microsoft announced the end of support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025 for all users not enrolled in the Extended Security Updates program. Sophos recommends customers join the Windows 10 Extended Security Updates program to keep Windows 10 secure until October 13, 2026.
Where possible, upgrade to Windows 11 to ensure you receive the latest security and feature updates.
Permanent retirement Windows list
Once an OS is permanently retired, it will no longer receive new features, bug fixes, content updates, or customer support.
End of support for Windows 7, 8, 8.1
Sophos Home ended support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 on October 31, 2023. Sophos Home endpoints running these versions of Windows will no longer receive new features, bug fixes, content updates or customer support.
