This article explains the scenarios that can cause the Sophos Home shield to not appear in the macOS menu bar, and how to correct each scenario.
Sophos Home is not installed
What is happening?
The Sophos Home shield will only be displayed if the software has been installed on the computer in question. If you do not see the icon, and do not see any Sophos items in Applications or Launchpad, you may not have the software installed.
Solution: Install Sophos Home
This can be resolved by installing the Sophos Home software as outlined in this article:
Installing Sophos Home on Mac computers
Not enough space in the menu bar
What is happening?
In cases where the Macs screen is not wide enough to display all of the menu bar icons (right side) and application menu items (left side), macOS will automatically hide icons to ensure as many application menus can be displayed as possible. Icons will be hidden in order from left to right.
Solution: Move the Sophos Home icon further right
Menu bar icons can be rearranged by holding the Command key (⌘) and dragging the icon to the desired position. Moving the Sophos Home shield to the furthest right position will ensure it is displayed whenever possible.
Sophos Auto Update is updating or restarting the software
What is happening?
Sophos Home is applying updates in the background.
Solution:
No further action is required. Please wait for the installation to complete; it usually doesn’t take long, depending on the device’s performance.
If the above-mentioned solution does not resolve the issue, please refer to the installation-related articles for reinstallation steps or contact the Sophos Home support team.
