What's happening?
Sophos Home Shield does not appear in the Mac menu bar. There are a few causes of this:
- Sophos Home is not currently installed
- There is not enough space in the menu bar for the Sophos Home shield
- There is a problem with the processes for Sophos Home
What to do?
Verify Sophos Home Installation:
- Navigate to Applications > Sophos > Sophos Home. and make sure the below items are listed.
- If these are not listed, you may need to Install Sophos Home
- If Sophos Home is installed and all of these are listed but the problem persists, try the next steps.
Rearrange the icons in the menu bar:
- Hold the Command key ⌘ and drag the left-most icon further left. If a new icon appears, it means the menu bar is overcrowded, which causes some icons to be hidden.
- Click the Apple icon -> System Settings -> Control Center, and temporarily hide some of the icons until the Sophos Home icon appears.
Check Sophos processes in the Activity Monitor:
- Click open the magnifying glass at the top right corner and type "Activity Monitor". In the top right searchbox, search "Sophos" to list only Sophos processes.
- Click "Sophos Home", then click the X button inside the octagon near the top of the activity monitor, and then click "Quit" to end the process. It should automatically restart after a few moments, and the shield will appear at the top of this, which was the cause of the issue.
- Note: If you do not see any Sophos items or some are missing, you will need to Install Sophos Home and verify if the shield appears.
